7. Travel to Portugal
7. Travel to Portugal
December 3 to 8, 2021On this trip I traveled part of Extremadura and Portugal. I would start by visiting the most populated city in Extremadura, Badajoz, and the most important in Muslim times with the most powerful citadel in northern Andalusia.
It would pass through Olivenza and Elvas, defensive cities between Spain and Portugal with large fortifications, Elvas being a World Heritage Site due to its forts, walls and bastions. Once in Portugal, I would stay south of Lisbon, in Caparica from where I would plan my trips. The first destination would be the Almada neighborhood and then see Lisbon in 1 day. Next, I would visit the cities of Palmela, Setubal and Sesimbra, with two of the most important castles in Portugal after that of São Jorge in Lisbon.
I would visit the Mafra National Palace, the Escorial Portugues due to its style and dimensions, and then I would leave for one of the most touristic cities in all of Europe, Sintra, with its network of palaces that can be visited where the palace of Pena stands out on the mountain.
I would go up to see the three cities with their monasteries, Alcobaça, Batalha and Tomar, passing through historic cities like Santarem or towns as touristy as Óbidos, one of the most visited.
Finally, I would return to Toledo from Lisbon, a trip of about 850 km.
