Day 3, Castelo Branco and Nisa

67. Castelo Branco
67. Castelo Branco
68. Nisa
68. Nisa
Since there in Portugal they have breakfast very early, from 6:30 to 8:30, I went to find a nice town nearby and stopped at
Nisa.
This town has the remains of a castle from the end of the 13th century. It had existed since the time of the reconquest and in the 13th century because the people refused to help the King of Portugal, he would order an attack on the town, burning down their houses and destroying the castle. In the 16th century it would be fortified again but, as in Castelo Branco, Spanish troops would attack and remove part of the walls. Later, due to urban development, many of the stones of the wall would be used to build houses and today small sections of the original wall remain.
In the first image you can see the city gate next to the town hall tower.
The church of Nuestra Señora de Gracia is in the Renaissance and Baroque style. Nearby there is a museum of sacred art, as well as the castle and the medieval house of Nisa.
This town has a small, well-kept old town, with very homogeneous white houses and a couple of loom museums, one of the typical tasks in the area. Also pottery and agricultural and household tasks. I show below.
Finally, go through the park of the
municipal chamber of Nisa and the Church of Mercy, which dates from the 18th century and is like a common church in Portugal.
On the way to Castello Branco I would see the river in Porto Rodao, and its exceptional landscape where it seems that there are nautical activities such as kayaking in a small pier in the town.
In Castelo Branco he would spend the rest of the day on the municipal lawn. This pool-beach is one of the attractions of the city since it was recently inaugurated. The entrance price does not exceed €6, like any good pool in Spain. The water of the Castello Branco beach was quite good, and also the sun hits almost the entire surface even though it is a little cloudy. In addition, there were very few people, so you didn't have to worry much about the safety of your things or about anything in the pool. The pool cover is made of a fairly good material, it is not polyfiber, and it also has numerous bridges inside that give it an air more of a beach than a pool, as well as the decoration.
At night I would go to have dinner at one of the bars in the area, with dinner time there around 8:00 p.m. and then go up to the top of the city, to the castelo to be able to contemplate the city at night, several of emblematic buildings with external lighting.
